Author's Note My children are the inspiration behind Ocean Waves and Other Tales and Play Dates and Other Tales. To make our reading and learning time particularly fun and interesting, I would make up musical melodies to stories, alphabets, numbers, and words. My children so loved and adored this time together until I decided to write classic musical stories.
Ocean Waves and Other Tales is a multi-cultural book comprised of four short stories: Ocean Waves, I Am Loved, Baby Bear, and I'm Sleepy. Play Dates and Other Tales is a subsequent book with similar characters that grew over a year or two. The short stories in this book include YOU, Many Colors, Number Chant, and Play Dates. A musical CD accompanies both books and adds fun, playful, and soothing tunes for young children. It is my hope that YOU enjoy this reading and musical experience.
Parent's Note
My message to you is simple and brief. First, try to make reading and learning FUN for your child. Personally, I used musical concepts as a tool. Find the tool(s) that connect with your child. Secondly, try to spend at least 20 minutes of reading time a day with your child. I know that 20 minutes can be difficult for some of you so try to do what works best for you and your schedule. Next, start early. A child is never too young to be engaged through reading and learning. Also, try to understand how your child learns and retains information. This understanding is crucial to your child's development. Finally, be an advocate for your child. Your child needs your love, support, and guidance.
